The Daily D.O.S.E

I don’t think we show ourselves enough love.

This is the first pen to paper journal i’ve written in some time. Of late I have been writing using notes in my phone or on my laptop. I realise the irony that you will be reading this on a screen. Anyway, it feels good to actually write.

So I came up with a concept a week or so ago. The Daily D.O.S.E.

Dose being an acronym for Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin and Endorphins. The feel good hormones.

The concept was born on a day where I wasn’t loving myself a great deal. I have actually had quite a rough six months but have slowly been re-gaining some control, direction and empathy for my own wellbeing internally and externally. The concept is to allocate and take a day of leave once a month (or as frequently as your life and commitments permit) to give yourself a nice big D.O.S.E.

To clear that day of anything other than activites that will induce a flood of feel good hormones.

It is well documented the impacts of these hormones on your physiology, psychology and overall wellbeing so why don’t we actively pursue natural release of these hormones more frequently? I mean a real, intentional, purposeful pursuit.

I am yet to undertake a daily D.O.S.E but I know exactly what I would do.

I would exercise and do only the training that I love to do. Likely some weights and a run.

I would see the sun rise and swim in the ocean before enjoying my morning coffee with the sun on my face.

I would journal.

I would walk and listen to music and eat only the best quality food all day.

I would make love, connect with people I care about, laugh and do something for someone without any expectation in return.

I would get a massage.

I would burn candles.

I would see my therapist.

Seems like a big day but all of those things light me up when I imagine having a day like that.

Imagine if companies enforced a monthly D.O.S.E day instead of a mental health day and you were encouraged to spend time planning and living the biggest and best D.O.S.E you could.

I’d want to work for a company like that.

Maybe its time I schedule in my daily D.O.S.E.
